“My feeling is that kids learn technique best in the service of their own creativity. Kids integrate technique into their own dances. Itís motivating” —Lydia Johnson, quoted in South Orange Patch

We are looking forward to a great three weeks of dance technique, repertory and our choreography workshop! This year LJD company member and LJD School Contemporary teacher, Katie Martin will again serve as Assistant Director. There will also be guest artists who have performed with the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater and Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. We also have a number of CHS Special Dance students coming by to help!

BALLET OR JAZZ SHOES ARE REQUIRED. The floors on the stage are not safe for bare feet! Comfortable, easy to move in clothing such as leotards, T shirts, shorts, leggings etc. are all fine for class. There is a Capezio outlet in Wayne and many places in NYC for dance shoes. We have been told that Payless Shoes also carries ABT ballet slippers.

After an all-camp morning meeting and warm-up stretches, our classes begin. Half of our student dancers will have contemporary or hip hop and half will have ballet, and then the groups will switch. Technique classes will be followed by choreography workshops

As the Camp progresses we will have some special guests and will delve into the choreography of several great artists through video and discussion! These viewings act as a springboard for our students' own choreographic efforts.

There will be a showing of works in progress towards the end of each week.
